“Make no mistake—writing is power. What this fact should prompt us to ask is: What kind of power is it, where does it come from, and what does it mean?”

— Matthew Salesses, Craft in the Real World

As a teacher of First Year Composition with a background in early childhood education, I am interested in reframing writing and rhetoric for college students in a way that makes writing feel fun, accessible, and applicable to their continuing academic careers and beyond. Through interactive group lessons, reading, and discussing a variety of texts/media representing non-canonical voices, I aim to empower students to write using a voice that feels more authentic to themselves in hopes to reshape the landscape of academic writing for the future.
